A Bit About My History
I came to the Southern States from Canada where I had first displayed my artwork in a show at 16, then I continued to do commissioned artwork to support myself while getting a Bachelor of Environmental Design from Miami U. with studies at Cornel, and my Masters of Architecture at Yale. I set up my architectural practices in Vancouver, Toronto, then the Carolinas where I practice sustainable design, teach part-time at Harvard U. after getting an ALM in Sustainability and continue to paint to express my passion for beauty, social justice and concern for the environment. My paintings have been shown in many art galleries across the US in international and national shows and I have won awards such as the Holbein, entry to the Mint Museum Roman Beardon Show and SCWS Traveling Show.
My paintings convey both human and natural beauty through saturated colors and translucency in both fine and bold brushstrokes, but they also focus on themes of social justice such as immigration, misogyny, environmental issues, and ageism. My art is a commentary of hope for our society since these images create a pathos of compassion, joy, and somber contemplation in the viewer using mediums of watercolor and pastels that allow both strength and vulnerability to be shown together. I am also an architect who designs repurposed buildings, a teacher of Sustainability at Harvard and a global volunteer to help save the environment and empower women through the Spence Women's Foundation. I paint in expressive gestures from the heart through personal observation, curiosity, and ceaseless optimism in a voice that took many years to come forward.
